Campaign 2026 (for the Renta 2025)

Another year, the Income Tax Declaration (IRPF): : the state is demanding payment of a portion—perhaps the largest portion—of our direct taxes. Supposedly to cover some our social needs (education, healthcare, culture, decarbonization of the economy, energy transition, nature conservation, improvement of public services, civil protection in emergencies, scientific research for peaceful purposes...). All of this is fine. But let’s not forget that a very significant portion of our taxes will go toward funding militarism (11.43% in 2025). We urge you to say: NO!

Contributing to military spending fuels wars, encourages authoritarianism, exacerbates social injustice and worsens the climate, environmental and energy crises. Militarism puts human lives, our health, the health of the planet and the future of the next generations at risk. It also diverts a significant portion of our resources away from meeting basic social needs.

Military spending (the Ministry of Defence’s budget, funds hidden within other ministries, plus the extraordinary appropriations approved by the Council of Ministers) in 2026 amounted to €66.078 billion, representing 3.91% of the national GDP. That is €181 million a day, or around €1,333 per inhabitant per year in Spain. An outrageous scandal!!

Manifesto marking the launch of the Alternativa Antimilitarista-MOC’s campaign for conscientious objection to military spending in 2026.

War is a crime against humanity. Not in our name!!
To prevent wars, we must get involved. Object to military spending!

To send a clear message to the government, tell them you do not agree with military spending or with European rearmament: TAX OBJECTION!

With 3€ of tax objection, you run no risk of the tax authorities claiming anything from you and you are making a real commitment to PEACE and DISARMAMENT.

What is tax objection?

Tax objection is the refusal to contribute financially to the state’s funding of the armed forces and their wars.

Tax objection is an act of civil disobedience (and therefore illegal) which involves diverting part of the tax due on one’s income tax return (IRPF) and channelling this amount towards social initiatives working to build transformative and solidarity-based alternatives.

Not one person, not one euro for war!

See the 2025 tax objection report.

How do you make a tax objection?

  1. Choose a project or organisation to which you wish to donate the money. We recommend the one listed at: https://objecionfiscal.info/frente-al-rearme-desobediencia/, which supports the War Resisters’ International (WRI). Make a bank transfer or deposit into their bank account for the amount you wish to donate (we suggest various options in point 2). Keep the receipt.
  2. You must object to an amount that you can afford, in case the tax authorities ask you to repay it.
    • €3 (this way you run no real risk). It is a token amount that the tax office will never ask you to repay.
    • 11.43% of your ‘self-assessed tax liability’ (box 595), which corresponds to the percentage of military spending as a proportion of the total General State Budget.
    • Any amount you see fit.
  3. File your tax return online (Renta Web). Fill it in with your details and amend box 606 (‘Withholdings under Article 11 of Council Directive 2003/48/EC reported prior to 1 January 2019 (Austria, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, San Marino, Monaco and Andorra)’) by entering the amount you have decided to set aside.
  4. Send a letter to the Minister of Finance explaining your reasons for objecting to military spending on tax grounds. We suggest a template. We recommend that you attach a copy of the payment receipt. You can submit it online via the Tax Agency’s website.
  5. Infórmanos de tu objeción para que podamos hacer un recuento de todas las personas que la han hecho, porque esta es una campaña colectiva. Rellena el formulario que encontrarás en: http://www.objecionfiscal.info/encuesta
  6. Please let us know about your objection so that we can keep track of everyone who has raised one, as this is a collective campaign. Please fill in the form available at: http://www.objecionfiscal.info/encuesta
