Palestinian and international human rights organisations have launched a campaign to denounce the arbitrary detention of Ayman Ghraieb.

18/12/2026

As we reported in our previous update, on 17 November 2025, Palestinian human rights defender Ayman Ghraieb was detained by the Israeli army in the village of al-Fasayil (Jordan Valley, West Bank) and was subjected to enforced disappearance for two days.

On 1 December 2025, the Israeli military command issued a six-month administrative detention order against Ayman Ghraieb, claiming that he was ‘endangering the security of the region’. On 15 December, almost a month after his arrest, the Ofer Military Court confirmed his administrative detention order following a summary hearing held behind closed doors. During the hearing, Ayman was charged with ‘incitement’ without further explanation, and his lawyer was denied access to the alleged evidence. This constitutes a violation of the right to a fair trial and to an effective defence. The administrative order allows the detention to be renewed indefinitely, meaning Ayman remains detained at Megiddo prison and has been denied visits from his family and lawyer.

Several human rights organisations have strongly condemned the detention of Ayman Ghraieb. They consider it to be directly linked to his legitimate work in defence of human rights, which has consisted of documenting violations committed against the Palestinian population in the occupied West Bank.
